The Church


The Project:

approved by the Council of the Province of

Vercelli in March 2003 and financed with

European Union funds, the restoration project

for the abbey church of Santa Maria di Lucedio

is co-ordinated by the Province of Vercelli

under the direction of architect. Giorgio

Gaietta, in cooperation with the Turin Board of

the Ministry of Cultural Heritage. With the

preliminary agreement for purchase by the

Church already made, the finalizing of the

agreement between the Province, the Abbey

ownership and the Archbishopric is currently

underway. The agreement will outline the

establishment of a genuine pilot scheme, from

the point of view of full collaboration between

Public Institutions, private institutions and the

Board, for the historical-environmental

restoration of an architectural marvel which has

few equals in the Vercelli territory.
